I’ve realised that a lot of you might not know much about me so today, I’d like to (re)introduce myself and share a bit about what I do, why, and how I might be able to help you.
My name’s Katie, and I’m an English teacher. I’ve been running my own teaching business since 2020 and I give English lessons online.
Recently, my work has changed from being a general English teacher towards focusing on helping professional women who need English for work.
(I know that a lot of my readers are not professional women and you are all welcome here! Most of my content here on Substack has been pretty general so far. This might change in the future. I’m still working a few things out.
As I say, everyone is welcome but if you start to feel my content is not relevant to you any more, you can unsubscribe by clicking the link at the bottom at any time.)
So who and what do I teach?
These days, most of my clients are professional women who use (or want to use) English in their jobs.
But I don’t just teach the language - I also help my learners build confidence, which I believe is a huge part of the learning process.
Why confidence?
First of all, I know what it feels like not to have confidence.
Starting a new job, living in another country, launching my own business, or learning to speak a new language - these experiences have all left me feeling unsure of myself at different points in the past. So I understand what it feels like.
I might not have conquered every bit of self-doubt, but I’ve learned how to move forward in spite of it. Each new challenge starts out feeling hard and awkward, but with time and effort, it gets easier—and confidence grows.
I see the same pattern when it comes to learning English. Whether it’s making your first phone call in English or starting a new job in an international setting, these moments of discomfort are part of the journey. My goal is to guide my learners through them.
Secondly, my students’ experiences remind me why confidence is so important.
I’ve met so many learners who are far better at English than they realise - people who can hold a great conversation in English even at an intermediate level, or people who have reached quite an advanced level but still insist their English is “terrible.”
I can help my learners with grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and speaking skills but none of this is going to matter if they don’t have the confidence to put it all to use in the real world. This is what I want to help people with.
So how do I help?
1. My programme
I have a programme for professional women called “She Speaks English”. This is a combination of one-to-one lessons and the chance to be part of a group of like-minded women for extra support and practice.
You can find out more about the programme here.
This programme is for paying clients but the next two things are free.
2. My Facebook group
I’ve just reopened my old Facebook group. I haven’t decided yet if this is going to stay open long term or if it’s just temporary. It’s a bit of an experiment. This group is for anyone and you can join here.
I’m also thinking about opening another Facebook group which is just for women. Let me know if you’d be interested.
3. Newsletters
As well as these Substack posts (which you might get by email or you might read in the Substack app), I also have my main newsletter called “Confident English for Professional Women”. As you can see from the title, this newsletter is aimed primarily at working women! (It comes out every Thursday.)
So if you’re a working woman and if you’re interested in getting these newsletters (as well as my Substack posts), you can sign up here. I know more than 100 people are already on both lists!
See you next week!
And if you’re not already signed up for my Friday Substack emails, you can do that here:
It's awesome!
I'm really interested to be a part of this. So thank you advance for everything!🙏
