Hello!
No matter what level of English you’re at, there’s always more to learn.
How does that make you feel?
For some people, it’s exciting. They love the idea of always learning something new. But for others, it can feel frustrating or discouraging.
Have you ever thought, “I’ll never learn it all!” and felt like giving up?
Well, I have good news and bad news for you.
The bad news is … you’re right. You’ll never learn it all.
But before you get too depressed, let me tell you something. Nobody knows it all!
English is my first language, I’ve been speaking it for over 50 years, and I don’t know it all either! I still come across words I don’t know, idioms I’ve never heard before, or grammar rules I have to check.
The good news is … you don’t need to know it all!
You don’t need to know every word in the dictionary to have great conversations. You don’t need perfect grammar to communicate effectively. Even if you never reach an “advanced” level, you can still express yourself, connect with people, and achieve your goals in English.
Instead of worrying about what you don’t know, try this instead:
1. Celebrate what you do know. Take a moment to recognize how far you’ve already come. What was your English like a year ago, five years ago, or ten years ago? I’m sure you know a lot more now than you did then. That’s progress!
2. Enjoy the journey. Learning should be something you enjoy. Instead of feeling frustrated by what you haven’t learned yet, look forward to what you’re going to learn next!
3. Remember that communication is the goal, not perfection. Nobody speaks perfectly all the time. Not even native speakers! The important thing is that people understand you and you understand them. And that’s something you’re already doing.
So keep going! You’re doing better than you think.
